Welcome from the Head of Secondary

I am delighted to welcome you to the Secondary Phase of Gildredge House.

It is a privilege to work each day with our students and staff. Our Secondary Phase is an ambitious, supportive and inclusive community where students are encouraged to work hard, behave well, be respectful to everyone and be the best version of themselves.

We have high expectations because we want every student to achieve their best. Strong subject teaching, a broad curriculum and clear routines help students develop the knowledge, confidence and independence they need for GCSEs and for the choices that follow. We also know that success is about more than exam results. Students need to feel known, supported and valued if they are to thrive.

Our ASPIRE values of Ambition, Support, Perseverance, Integrity, Reflection and Empathy are at the centre of our work. They shape our behaviour culture, our pastoral care and the way students learn to take responsibility for themselves and for others. Clear expectations help students behave well, take pride in their uniform and contribute positively to school life.

For students who have moved through Gildredge House from Primary, the Secondary Phase offers a smooth and supported progression within a familiar school community. As the Year 7 cohort grows, existing students benefit from new friendships, fresh perspectives and an even broader school community. For students joining us in Year 7 or later, we provide a warm welcome, strong pastoral support and a carefully planned transition. New students are quickly known, supported and helped to build friendships, settle into our routines and flourish both socially and academically.

We are proud of the opportunities our students have to grow as people. Through our student leadership opportunities, our Personal Development curriculum, sport, creative opportunities, trips, clubs and careers education, students are encouraged to discover their strengths and think carefully about their future. Students learn what it means to give back to the community they serve, while developing the confidence, character and ambition they need for their next steps.

I am proud to work with our students, families and staff to ensure every young person feels supported, challenged and able to achieve their best.

Please do visit us and speak to our staff and students. We have so much to share and much to be proud of.
