Welcome from the Head of Primary

I am delighted to welcome you to the Primary Phase of Gildredge House.

Primary is where many of our children begin their Gildredge House journey. It is a privilege to see them take those first important steps, from settling into Reception to growing into confident, curious and capable learners as they move through the year groups.

In Reception, we provide an exceptionally nurturing start to school life. Our warm staff, calm routines and strong transition support help children settle quickly, feel safe and begin to build the confidence they need to learn and explore. Through purposeful play, early learning, outdoor experiences and Forest School, children develop curiosity, independence, resilience and a love of discovery from the very beginning.

Across the Primary Phase, we want every child to feel known, safe and ready to learn. Our teachers and support staff work closely together to make sure children are both supported and challenged. Through consistent teaching, clear expectations and strong relationships, students develop the knowledge, skills and habits they need for the next stage of their education.

The ASPIRE values are introduced from the very beginning of school life. Children learn what it means to show ambition, support others, persevere when something is difficult, act with integrity, reflect on their learning and show empathy. These values help to build a caring and respectful community where every child can feel they belong.

Learning in Primary is exciting and purposeful. Our curriculum gives children strong foundations, while also opening up new experiences through visits, enrichment, creative opportunities, sport, leadership and learning beyond the classroom. These experiences help children discover their interests, build confidence and see what they are capable of achieving.

As part of a school for children from Reception to Year 11, our primary students also benefit from being part of a wider community. They become familiar with shared values, consistent expectations and older role models, helping them grow in confidence as they move through the school.

We also value our partnership with parents and carers. Regular communication and opportunities to work together help us support each child’s learning, wellbeing and development.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s early education. We look forward to sharing the many milestones, achievements and special moments that make the Primary Phase such a rewarding part of Gildredge House.
